Sam and Eric’s Richmond wedding will always be one of our favorites. While it may have taken place in our favorite city and included the most amazing of details, it was Sam and Eric that made the day so special for us. They are amazing individuals and watching them together, well, it made us feel lucky to be able to capture a love as real as theirs. At William and Mary where they met, Sam was a cheerleader and Eric was a football player. It wasn’t until their junior year that their friendship turned into something much more. In fact, these two were inseparable (read more on their engagement here). So it only made sense that their wedding day theme would be samneric, based on the twins from William Golding’s novel The Lord of the Flies, named Sam and Eric. Sam is an English teacher and loves literature, so the details surrounding this theme were pretty amazing. Sam told me, “We incorporated books as part of the ceremony decor and props. We had quotes on the napkins and table names were from our favorite reads. The escort cards were library cards with trivia questions and the place cards were check-out forms from a library card catalog, personalized to fit each guest. Even some of our appetizers were based on literary figures: The Hillbilly BBQ served in mini martini glasses were for Huck Finn and the oysters for Gatsby. Our cake toppers of course had to be for our dog Boo Radley (named after a character in To Kill a Mockingbird). It was full on nerd fest in all W&M style. We incorporated the green and gold theme by having wedding colors of yellow and gray but using all the green in nature as accents. Monumental Church is a historic monument having made claim to the notorious poet, Edgar Allan Poe, attending when it was a theater. We had an E E Cummings poem during the ceremony and even our save the dates donned literary quotes. Everyone knew the theme was us and it came out so nicely!”
Sam and Eric, we can’t thank you enough for including us in your day. It was truly an honor…hurry back to Richmond soon!! -S+J
